Mad Lab Friday 2nd October 2020

Posted October 23rd, 2020

On Friday 2nd October, the team at Mad Lab Science presented a ‘Mad Lab Studio’ assembly for the whole school.

The assembly was called ‘Up, Up and Away!’ During the assembly we learnt about acids and alkalis, hot and cold air pressure and chemical reactions. During the session, we were able to watch cool demonstrations, interact with the presenter in the studio, ask and answer questions and even experiment alongside Mad Scientist Indie too!

This was a fantastic and fun activity that created a real buzz of excitement around our school.

15.10.20 Science Enquiry Question – Year 6 – How Can Light Help Us See ?

Posted October 23rd, 2020

We loved the experiences and experiments we have carried out today. By making a reflective collar for Miss Peverell’s puppy Elsie, we learned about reflective and retro-reflective materials (plus we thought about what would be soft next to her neck).

We studied how light travels in straight lines by setting up our own experiments.

By studying how shadows are formed and which materials light will pass through, we were able to create our WW2 tableaus using black card and cellophane.

CHOCTOBER 2020

Choctober is back for another year. If you have not heard of Choctober before, it’s where we ask you to give up chocolate for the month of October, this is because lots of kidney patients are not allowed to eat chocolate, so to highlight kidney disease and raise some vital funds we would love you to take part. You can give up for a week leading up to half term or for three weeks from the start of October to half term or for the whole of October. Help us to get healthy and raise money at the same time.

National Fitness Day

Posted October 13th, 2020

We celebrated this is school with an assembly from Mr Banks and Mr Bowes. They set us some challenges to see if we could get even fitter than we are already. What fitness goals are you setting yourself?

Spitfire Display

Posted October 13th, 2020

We waited excitedly to see the plane fly over the Memorial Hospital and so over Reid Street primary too – then it was cancelled due to the bad weather. Then… it was re-scheduled so many of us got to see it after all.

Remember the importance of a smile :)

Posted October 13th, 2020

We thought about how important it is to share a smile with someone and we enjoyed thinking about how, even at a distance, we can pass our smiles on to someone else.

International Literacy Day on Tuesday 8th September

Posted October 13th, 2020

We really enjoyed celebrating International Literacy Day in school. We shared our favourite reads and discussed why we like them so much. We thought about the 773 million adults in the world who cannot read and write and so aren’t able to enjoy books in the way we do at school and at home. We created some fabulous book worms made up of the titles of books, stories and poems we love. Happy Reading!

The Votes Have Been Counted!

Posted October 13th, 2020

Following our democratic process, we have elected our new Head Girl and Head Boy for Reid Street. It was a hard fought contest. Each candidate who was brave enough to put themselves forward for this coveted role had to record a speech persuading the pupils in other bubble year groups to vote for them. We heard some very convincing promises and plans. Having counted all of the votes, we have our newly elected representatives. Well done to them!
